Nature and Outdoor

Silkeborg is Denmark's outdoor capital – and for good reason. With Silkeborg's fantastic location between forests and lakes, there are a wealth of opportunities for nature and outdoor experiences right outside the camp.

Mountain bike trails

The mountain bike offer in Silkeborg is one of the best in Denmark. Ly Outdoor Camp is located between Nordskoven and Vesterskoven in Silkeborg, which has mountain bike trails that match all technical levels. Vesterskoven has Denmark's longest downhill run of 1,4 kilometers, and on Nordskoven's black trails, you can ride a total of 12,4 kilometers between the forest's large Douglas firs and beech trees.

Silkeborg BikePark is the city's mountain bike playground. Find out more about Silkeborg BikePark.

At Cykelfavoritten you can rent mountain bikes.

Canoe, kayak and SUP

Experience Silkeborg from the lakeside in a canoe, kayak or SUP board. We have seven canoes that can be rented on an hourly or daily basis. And if you are on a canoe trip, the camp is an obvious stop for an overnight stay or two.

We also have a Kayakomat located at the camp, from which you can rent kayaks, tandem kayaks and SUP boards. Read more about the Kayakomat and booking here..

You don't have to be a guest at the camp to rent our canoes or use the Kayakomat - it's for everyone.

Hiking trails

The combination of ancient heathlands, magnificent forests, hilly landscapes and many beautiful lakes is found nowhere else but here in the Søhøjlandet. All you have to do is lace up your hiking boots and get out and hunt for nature experiences.

Both the Himmelbjerg Route and the Silkeruten pass by Ly Outdoor Camp. The Himmelbjerg Route is a 52-kilometer hiking route that winds along the Silkeborg Lakes, while the Silkeruten is a 12-kilometer nature, culture and adventure trail that encircles central Silkeborg. There is also a seven-kilometer hiking route through the Østerskoven forest, starting just a stone's throw from the camp.

Running routes

Silkeborg's beautiful nature offers great opportunities for a brisk run. The area around the camp is ideal for a good run in the forest and by the lake. As inspiration, Silkeborg Running Club has made a good overview of forest routes.

Lake bathing

Approximately 1,5 kilometers southwest of Ly Outdoor Camp is Almindsø with the two bathing establishments Østre and Vestre Søbad. Almindsø is one of Denmark's cleanest lakes and is surrounded by cozy forest. There are approximately four kilometers around the lake, which invites you to a beautiful hike with the viewpoint Kroghs Bænk.

The lake baths are extremely child-friendly with bathing jetties, sandy beach, toilet and changing facilities. At Østre Søbad there is also a mobile sales cart from which coffee, snacks and ice cream can be purchased.

The Climbing Park

The climbing park is Silkeborg's newest major outdoor attraction. Here you will find a large climbing park with up to six climbing courses (from six years). In addition, there is a playground for the little ones, a large lunch cabin with a roof terrace and views of Silkeborg, as well as dining areas with tables and benches and a large bonfire with a grill.

Bicyclerute

The old Central Jutland railway lines have been turned into paved cycle routes that take cyclists through the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District. Also try your hand at the 26 toughest cycling hills in and around Silkeborg.

Skatepark

If you love to feel the rush of skateboarding, scooters, roller skates or BMX, Silkeborg SkatePark is the place. With its 6.000 square meters, the skatepark is Denmark's largest. At the top of the Silkeborg motorway tunnel, skaters, as well as everyone on small wheels in Silkeborg, have a pure paradise to frolic on with turns, jumps and ramps.

Angling

Do you dream of catching a big pike? All season long, anglers catch both small and large freshwater fish in the Silkeborg Lakes – some weighing as much as 15 kilos. When you go fishing in the Gudenåen and the Silkeborg Lakes, you must purchase a fishing license and in some cases a fishing permit.
